Coraline

I developed the color design, completed hand-painting and lacquering for all character faces in Coraline, giving detail and definition to facial expressions, silicone skins and clothing.

Art Character Director / Lead 3D Texture Artist

At LAIKA, I began as a contract character painter for Coraline and progressed to introducing, leading and implementing a 3D color printing innovation process that became standard for the production of four critically acclaimed animated feature films: ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, Kubo and the Two Strings and The Missing Link. Kubo and the Two Strings won a Scientific & Technical Oscar® (2016) as well as a BAFTA Award. I also provided art direction for all characters on ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, Kubo and The Two Strings, and The Missing Link. LAIKA has always been known for technical innovation, however with the production of ParaNorman, it became the first in the industry to combine classic techniques with 3D printing technology, as well as make use of digital shoot-and-capture and rapid prototyping for facial animation.
