Paranorman

Leveraging my fine art background to precisely match the maquette models and backgrounds to their digital versions

Lead 3D Innovation Artist & Lead Painter

I served as the lead 3D innovation artist and lead painter on ParaNorman, which was an industry-defining moment for LAIKA and stop-motion animation at large. In terms of painting, I hand-painted maquettes to prepare them for color design and silicone zombies for production. With rapid prototyping, I began by identifying obstacles to merging these processes—maquettes and 3D color printing—leveraging my fine art background to precisely match the maquette models and backgrounds to their digital versions. This included using specialty software to unwrap texture maps and painting diffused color maps for use with the 3D color printer and visual effects background characters.
