Texture and Contrast

I find beauty in the juxtaposition of hardscapes contrasted against organic surroundings. I often see these contrasts on the highway during my drive home. For example, an epic East Coast sunset as the backdrop for a simple, stark overpass. There have been countless times when I wished I could stop my car and set up an easel in the middle of the highway, on a partially frozen lake or straddling a set of iron train tracks. I try to paint on-site whenever possible, but on occasion—such as when my life is at risk—I snap a picture and bring it home. My typical chosen materials are oil on linen and Masonite board.
